The
AARP Tax-Aide program has operated since 1968 under a
cooperative agreement with the IRS as part of its Tax Counseling
for the Elderly program.
Since
its birth, AARP Tax-Aide has helped over 27 million individuals
file their taxes at more than 10,000 sites annually. Our AARP
Tax-Aide sites are located in places convenient for taxpayers to
get to, such as senior centers, libraries and malls. We can also
visit taxpayers in their homes, if they are physically unable to
visit a site.
Our
program is available from February 1-April 15 each year. During
the off-season, our program continues to provide on-line tax
counseling and trains our volunteer cadre for the upcoming
season.
The
AARP Foundation is an affiliated 501 (c) (3) nonpartisan,
organization established in 1961. It administers publicly and
privately funded programs, such as AARP Tax-Aide, the AARP
Senior Community Service Employment Program, and the AARP Home
Equity Information Center. The Foundation also carries out the
Washington, D.C. based advocacy programs funded through the
Legal Counsel for the Elderly, Inc. These programs also receive
support from AARP.
